hocus pocus story
With the official statement due in May 2021, we got our first plot details of what we can expect from the next part.
It reads, “A coincidence of 3 young women brings the Sanderson Sisters back to modern-day Salem and Summer must stop the child-hungry witches from wreaking havoc on the world in a new way.”
It sounds a bit like the second part of the book, released in July 2018, which focuses on Max and Allison’s daughter Poppy, her friend Travis, and a girl named Isabella, whom Poppy has a crush on.
To inspire Isabella, Poppy sneaks into the Sanderson household during a blood moon and accidentally brings the sisters back to life. It’s unclear if this will actually happen in the film’s sequel, so may end up being non-canon.
The first film ended with (spoiler alert) the book of magic gouging out its eye, proving it’s still alive and witches can return.
While we don’t know much about the sequel, it is good enough for us to know that the returning cast is all praises for it. “We watched and I think we all agreed it was great,” Midler said in November 2020.
Fret not, the Hocus Pocus 2 film will also feature a musical number like the iconic ‘I Put a Spell on You’ part from the first film. In footage shown at Disney’s upfront presentation, the sisters perform Elton John’s ‘The Bitch Is Back’, which we can’t wait to see.

The Hocus Pocus Sequel Plot
The first trailer, which released on June 28, gives viewers a glimpse of what’s to come in the Hocus Pocus 2 film, It starts off ominously, with great music and a bird flying over a dark body of water. Three young girls are introduced, and we learn that it is one of their sixteenth birthdays. Meanwhile, the trailer cuts to Richardson’s role telling the girls that legend has it, witches get their powers at the age of sixteen.
Of course, that means the 2 girls start performing some sort of ritual – in an event, no less. As they’re chanting, the trailer shows something Hocus Pocus viewers will recognize all too well: Winifred’s beloved book of chants, opening its creepy singular eye. Then, boom: The Black Flame Candle—at least, something that looks like the one in the first film brought the witches back from the dead—lights up.
This is where the trailer gets thrilling. The cemetery grounds open up quite a bit before we get a glimpse of the three witches in all their glory. As they flash on screen, we hear Winifred’s words, “Lock up your kids, Salem. We’re back!”
