story line
An American soldier deals with a brain injury while fighting in Afghanistan and struggles to adjust to life back home. Apple Original Films will distribute Jennifer Lawrence’s next film, Causeway, the military drama and actioner produced in association with A24, coming to theaters and Apple TV+ later this year. An exact announcement date has not been set.
Leila Neugebauer, who currently helms the Broadway revival of Kenneth Lonergan’s act Waverly Gallery to much acclaim, is helmed “Causeway” The film in his feature picture debut. The story follows a soldier adjusting to his life back home in New Orleans. “Atlanta” Artist Brian Tyree co-stars with Henry Lawrence. Otessa Moshfegh, Luke Goebel and Elizabeth Sanders wrote the film Causeway, which was filmed in New Orleans.

plot
linsey (Lawrence) is serving as a US Army Corps of Engineers in Afghanistan when her motor vehicle hits a costly collision, causing injuries to her body and mind. After a difficult recovery, Lynsey returns home to New Orleans, where she lives with her well-meaning but neglectful mother. (Linda Emond) and works cleaning pools while she waits for her doctor to approve her petition for reappointment. Lynsey meets James (Brian Tyree Henry), a good-natured mechanic, with whom she forms a bond that gradually turns from casual to something more complicated. Like Lynsey, James is struggling to recover from severe wounds, both physical and psychological.

In April 2019, it was announced that Jennifer Lawrence and Brian Tyree Henry had joined the cast of an untitled drama film, with Leila Neugebauer helmed by Elizabeth Sanders. Lawrence, Justin Polsky, Eli Bush and Scott Rudin will serve as producers under Ratio’s Excellent Cadaver and IAC Films banner, while A24 will distribute. In April 2021, Scott Rudin was dropped as a producer on the project, following statements of abuse. On December 30, 2021, the WGA awarded final performance credits for the film to Sanders and the team of Otesa Moshfegh and Luke Goebel.
